America the Beautiful Quarters Program
2010 - 2021
A new generation of quarter-dollars begins in 2010 with America the Beautiful Quarters.
Similar to the 50 States Quarters Program and the 2009 D.C. & U.S. Territories Quarters Program, the series features five different annual quarter designs. The coins are minted for circulation, with special versions struck for collectors.
New US quarters with rotating designs will begin in 2010 and last at least through to 2021. Each year will feature five new quarters, with the final year of the program having one.
The quarter-dollar legislation to create commemorative quarters honoring national parks and national sites in each state, D.C. and U.S. Territory was introduced in both the House and Senate in June of 2008.
The new circulating quarters commemorate a historic national park or national site within each:
- State
- District of Columbia
- Puerto Rico
- Guam
- American Samoa
- U.S. Virgin Islands
- Northern Mariana Islands
The legislation was very popular. It quickly passed in the House on July 9, 2008 and passed the Senate on December 10, 2008. President Bush signed the bill into law on December, 23, 2008. With that, five differently designed quarters will be released yearly beginning in 2010.
On September 9, 2009, the United States Mint officially announced the name for the series, calling it the United States Mint America the Beautiful Quarters Program. It also released the order of National Parks and National Sites to be featured on each quarter-dollar through to 2021.
2010 America the Beautiful Quarter designs have already been created and are under review.
