World Youth Day Itinerary for the Archdiocese of Boston

Saturday, August 13th Today we depart Boston for our flight to Europe. Our flight will include inflight entertainment and meal.
   
Sunday,  August 14th Arrival in Madrid.  Today we settle into our hotel and take a panorama tour of this beautiful city.
   
Monday, August 15th

Today is the Feast of the Assumption of Mary and we are off to Toledo.  We will celebrate the Assumption Mass in the Toledo Cathedral and then have some time for lunch and touring this wonderful city. Toledo has a great wealth of monuments. Known as the "city of three cultures" becuase the Christians, Arabs, and Jews lived together for centuries.  We will see the churches, palaces, and  fortresses.   Tonight we have a welcome dinner for our group.

   
Tuesday, August 16th This morning is some free time to explore Madrid.  Later this afternoon is the Opening Mass with Cardinal Rouco of Madrid.  The location of the Opening Mass is tentatively set for the Cibeles Plaza.
   
Wednesday, August 17th & Thursday, August 18th Morning Catechesis sessions taking place at various locations throughout Madrid.  Mass will be celebrated each day.  In the afternoon, the Youth Festival will take place until late evening.  Thursday afternoon we welcome the Holy Father to Madrid.
   
Friday,  August 19th Morning Catechesis session and Mass.  This afternoon we witness the Stations of the Cross.  This evening we go to the Youth Festival.
   
Saturday, August 20th Mass is scheduled with other American Diocese.  We then begin our Pilgrimage across Madrid to Cuatro Vientos for vigil.  This evening we take part in the vigil ceremonies and camp out under the stars. 
   
Sunday, August 21st Papal motorcade and Closing Mass in the morning.  The afternoon is free time to rest and explore the city a bit more before leaving Madrid.
   
Monday, August 22nd Many will fly home today while others will take part in the Barcelona extension Tour.  The bus will depart for Barcelona shortly after breakfast.  There will be a breif lunch stop en route.  Arrival in Barcelona is late afternoon.
   
Tuesday, August 23rd & Wednesday, August 24th Explore Barcelona.  Optional tours will be made available such as the incredible Monestary at Montserrat.
